Case Spotlight: A severe L4–L5 disc protrusion reversed successfully through IBAP’s non-surgical spine intervention
A 34-year-old male, U Ranjith, presented in the IBAP OPD, with a major complaint of back pain predominantly on left-sided.
There was no sensory or motor loss, and the pain radiated to the left leg with no sensations reduced.
The longer radiculopathy is unattended, higher the risk is for damage and symptoms can become permanent. In fact, in severe cases, paralysis may occur if it is left untreated for an extended period.
Along with a physical examination, IBAP specialists conducted X-ray and MRI tests and diagnosed Lumbar spondylosis with radiculopathy.
Treating lower back pain with a lumbar epidural with L3/L4/L5 disc nucleolytic with bilateral facet injection and nerve blocks, provided complete relief to the patient and helped him get back to normalcy.
The 2021 MRI revealed a pronounced L4–L5 disc protrusion exerting pressure on the exiting nerve root, correlating with the patient’s severe radiating pain and functional limitations. The compressed neural structures indicated a high risk of progression toward sensory disturbances, increased weakness, and potential long-term disability if left unmanaged.
The 2022 MRI shows a marked reduction in the L4–L5 disc protrusion following minimally invasive disc nucleolysis and targeted nerve root injections. Neural decompression is clearly visible, with restoration of normal epidural space and decreased inflammation, correlating with the patient’s complete recovery and return to daily activities without pain.
This case demonstrates the effectiveness of IBAP Clinic’s advanced non-surgical spine interventions in treating lumbar disc prolapse with radiculopathy. Early diagnosis, precise imaging, and targeted procedures—including lumbar epidural injections, disc nucleolysis, facet injections, and nerve blocks—resulted in complete symptom resolution. The patient achieved full functional recovery, with follow-up MRI confirming substantial disc regression and nerve decompression. This highlights IBAP’s commitment to restoring mobility, preventing neurological decline, and delivering long-term relief without surgery.
